Title: Instrumental aids to cultural awareness

Abstract: Talks to artist Ngaromoana Raureti of Waipatu, who has developed a range of wooden toys and musical instruments derived from ancient musical instruments of the Māori. Title: Parāone's horses : a letter from Hōhepa Tamamutu, 1875

Abstract: Reproduces (in Maori and English), an unpublished letter written to the Māori-language newspaper 'Te Wananga' in Sep 1875 by Hohepa Taumamutu (Ngāti Tuwharetoa) in which he transcribes a waiata composed by Paraone Taupiri (Ngāti Tahu, Ngāti Raukawa). Relates the origins of the waiata which laments the loss of his horses.

Abstract: Backgrounds the dispute regarding the song 'Pōkarekare Ana' talking with Ngātai Huata who believes the song was written by her grandfather Paraire Hēnare Tōmoana for her grandmother Kuini Ripeka Ryland; and with Radio NZ broadcaster Hēnare Te Ua; who suggests it may have been written by his grandfather Sir Āpirana Ngata. Provides transcripts of the song in Māori and English.

Title: A reading of a Ngāti Porou waiata whaiaipo

Abstract: Analyses the song by an unknown female writer. Describes a waiata whaiaipo as a song in which a woman speaks of two or more men as her potential or actual lovers. Mentions that the prophet Te Kooti Arikirangi Te Turuki later sung a modified version of the song as a way of promulgating the faith he founded.
